OUR HISTORY
Inspired by the grace that God had shown them after surviving cancer in 2001, Pastor Hansung and Suzanne You founded the Gift of Vision Foundation. Their goal was to help underserved and underprivileged communities, with an emphasis on health and vocational education. In 2002, they settled in San Lucas, Guatemala, visiting local churches, schools, orphanages, and hospitals in search of a charitable project. In 2005, they had the “vision” to start a permanent home in Chimaltenango, Guatemala for their charitable activities. Their plan was to build a new healthcare facility “Clinica Fuente de Gracia,” to provide medical and vision services, for the indigenous Mayan people. In 2006, they began establishing and constructing the foundation for the hospital. After construction of a 5,000 square foot building, they opened their clinic with a staff of nine health professionals to the local community. In 2008, the clinic achieved Guatemalan nonprofit recognition as part of the “Asociacion de Cuidados Medicos Avanzados.” Clinica Fuente de Gracia provided care for over 11,000 patients per year. In addition to general medical and optical services, there arose a demand for dental services. In 2009, work began on funding and constructing another building to address dental needs, a dental building was finished. Local dentists now work at Clinica Fuente de Gracia. The Clinica has gained wider recognition as an important base for medical and dental care in mountainous area of central Guatemala.
